DAY 12-COMBAT SUGAR CRAVINGS with these!

Below is a list of naturally sweet and/or healthy food replacements for when you're craving something sweet but don't want all the sugar and empty calories. Most of these foods are lower on the glycemic index. The Glycemic Index or (GI) is a relative ranking of carbohydrates in foods and their effect on how they are absorbed and metabolized in the bloodstream after consuming The more slowly they are digested, the slower the rise in blood sugar which is preferable. If you are diabetic or trying to lose weight you should stick to the lower end of the GI scale for the most part.  Generally, foods with a value of less than 55 are considered low to moderate according to the GI.

Fruit, especially berries: so naturally sweet but one of the lowest fruits on GI.  All fruit in moderation is great too unless your Dr. or nutritionist specifically recommends against it.

Protein bars: Careful with this one! Try to stick to bars with natural ingredients such as oats and fruits. Bars that list coconut sugar, honey, brown rice syrups. etc... aren't the best choice.  Sugar is sugar no matter how they try to disguise the name! Try to stick to bars that contain 7 or fewer grams of sugar. They're out there. Do the research! (for my personal faves, contact me)

Dark Chocolate: Not only does it contain healthy plant compounds called polyphenols but these compounds are powerful antioxidants associated with lowering the bodies inflammatory response that can be responsible for so many diseases. It's important to note that the higher the percentage of cacao in the chocolate, (70% or higher) the better it is. It is still high in fat and calories so a little goes a long way! (again, for my personal faves feel free to contact me)

Sweet Potatoes: A very healthy carb choice that is sweet, filling and loaded with vitamins and minerals. Try it with cinnamon for a really naturally sweet treat.

Dates: Another natural. Use sparingly though as they are a bit higher in total sugars even though the sugars are derived from nature and are not added.

Can anyone think of any others? Perhaps that you eat to satisfy sugar cravings?  Let me know so I can post them!
